Fall Season Update from Coach Raichl (10/20)

It has been two months since our last update, and although students are on campus taking classes, the uncertainty about the 2021 Spring lacrosse season remains.

The PNCLL annual coaches’ meeting, usually an in-person meeting in Tacoma, WA, was held on October 3 via Zoom. The many varied situations regarding sports limitations on our campus as well as our conference opponents made it difficult to craft a tentative plan that fits everyone, so it was decided to revisit the situation in early December and reevaluate.

In the meantime, University of Idaho Club Sports allowed us to begin practicing, only to reverse that soon after, since the number of virus cases increased. All students were to be tested again and could return to practices when positive cases decreased. Us coaches and the players are impatient to be on the field again and should be allowed to get back to it this week!

Being in lacrosse limbo has made it difficult to proceed with our typical preparation for Spring season. A player online gear store is just about ready to open, and an online Vandal Lacrosse fan spirit wear store is the works. The Board has continued its monthly conference calls, but decisions about issues, such as the season budget and player dues, are on hold until we know more.

Regarding our Board, our outgoing Chairperson Kelly Berard, outgoing Treasurer Dave Wagers, and outgoing Director Michelle Berard, are temporarily extending their terms of service, reluctant to leave the Board without full leadership in this unprecedented situation. And our outgoing Secretary FeLecia Boudy has agreed to stay on for one more year as a Director. Again, THANK YOU ALL, as your continued input and support is invaluable!

But with only their temporary continued commitment, filling the positions of Chairperson and Treasurer, along with up to two Director positions, is vital. Because the uncertainty of the season has kept planning at a slower than usual pace, this would actually be the perfect time for new members to transition in and learn about how the Club functions. The outgoing members are more than willing to mentor incoming officers.  Once again, I can promise that your involvement will make you addicted to Vandal Lacrosse! Please consider serving on our Board, and don't hesitate to reach out with questions about being a Board member.

We will send email updates when there is new information to share, but please also follow us on social media to see the latest.

Together, let us all continue to be optimistic that there will be a Spring season! And let us continue to wish that everyone stays safe and healthy.

GO VANDALS!
